The Future of Life

Water, super fuel
It's no coincidence that water is essential to life and living; in fact it is the substance that allows for controlled combustion(reorganization of elemental materials accompanied by a release of energy) in organic matter. In much the same way that a wood stove regulates oxygen to maintain a desired rate of combustion, living things utilize water to control both digestion and photosynthesis. All living organisms require water to function, and respirate it in many different ways. Water is the ultimate fuel, because it contains not only enormous amounts of energy and life function components, but it's energy states are easily changed. When combined with carbon based molecular structures, and sunlight, common throughout the universe, water can provide life sustenance. The fuel of the future is water, because when life is sustained, energy can be extracted and redirected. When you can redirect energy, you may be capable of expression. When you can express yourself, you may be sentient. When you are sentient, you may envision youself. When you can envision yourself, you may have ascended to another reality. Maybe not.

Vehicular Development
Mood:  caffeinated
By 2020, most vehicles will have sensor based collision avoidance systems that track other vehicles, their velocities and vectors, and will automatically apply braking or acceleration in emergency situations. This system will eventually be part of a high speed cruising protocall, first installed on interstates. Airbags will be located throughout a vehicle, even in exterior body panels. Solar cells will be common on exterior surfaces, integrated into coachwork. Truck trailers will be surfaced with solar cells. The center aisle in most divided highways will be solar collector zones. High speed trains will occupy many center zones, with underground routes through populated areas, and car ferries on most.

The power
Powering these units is electricity, of course, the most efficient form of energy transfer we have yet devised. Electricity is simply beautiful when it comes to work. Electromagnetism brings an efficient, harmonious dance to physical dynamics. So when we need it, where can we get it?

The distributable power plant of 2050 will be fueled by nuclear heat. The vehicular power plant will be an unrecognizable conglomeration of battery/fuel cell/generator that can be ported with electricity, hydrogen, oxygen or water and may also produce those products. It will become the major technolgy issue facing space travel, becoming more likely to accept local (space born)fuels.

Automotive locomotion
In 10 to 15 years, most passenger and commercial highway vehicles will be propelled at every (each) wheel by a directly driven electric motor. All wheels will be steerable, abs brake controlled, traction controlled, regenerative braking, actively suspended units, and these power units will be replaceable and recycled individually.

I have been predicting, debating, deciphering, expanding technological benchmarks for my whole life. I've been consistently wrong, but have had a few dramatic (only to me) flashes. So, I figured, would other people care to read and rate? We'll see. Post away, let's see who is ready live in the future.
